In 2016, the foundation sought to identify key stumbling blocks to successful college access and success. One area of focus was on Algebra. Achieving mastery of Integrated Algebra by eighth or ninth grade significantly improves student outcomes for high school graduation, college entrance, and college graduation. We have looked to further engage in effective Math interventions in Kindergarten through 12th grade to lay a foundation for educational success, preparing students for the academic rigor of high school and college. Programs supported include JUMP Math and Zearn. Supporting these pilot programs gives Heckscher the opportunity to test two different Math-focused models in both district and charter school settings.
