We identified the potential of The Writing Revolution (TWR) to train teachers and school leaders in expository writing instruction, introducing proven strategies that enable students to improve their writing skills, become better readers, speak more coherently, and elevate the complexity of their critical thinking. We piloted an Advanced Teacher Certification Writing Revolution program in New York City. Each year, TWR administers a writing assessment to students in partner schools at the beginning, middle and end of the school year. TWR’s goal was for 75% of all students to be proficient according to the TWR Single-Paragraph Rubric at the end of three years of instruction. This goal was met and exceeded after only two years.
