Story2 teaches storytelling and essay writing with a focus on enhancing college application-related essays for high school students. They provide direct services to students, professional development for English teachers and college counselors, and an online writing program with written feedback on student essays.
We supported two strategic partnerships involving Story2.
Strategic Partnership 1
We supported a strategic partnership between Story2 and CollegeBound Initiative (CBI), a high-touch college guidance and access program that places highly-trained, full-time college counselors in 32 partnering Title I New York City schools. This partnership complements CBI’s college guidance by providing students served by CBI with the tools they need to develop strong personal essays for college applications and scholarships, which will ultimately lead to better college match and matriculation outcomes for these underserved youth.
In collaboration with CollegeBound Initiative and College Advising Corps, Heckscher is helping us to measure the efficacy of different parts of our storytelling intervention, which empowers students to tell their stories out loud and helps low-income students achieve selective college admissions and scholarships.Carol Barash, CEO & Founder, Story2
Strategic Partnership 2
We supported a second strategic partnership between Story2 and College Advising Corps (CAC). Through this collaboration, Story2 trained CAC staff, including virtual advisors, to implement their Moments Method curriculum and tools virtually to 11th grade students across ten states, including New York. As with the CBI partnership, the train-the-trainer elements of the program were coupled with student work in the online StoryBuilder platform and written feedback on student essays from Story2 advisors. This pilot is testing the ability for Story2 to adapt its model to a virtual setting and will further test the impact of remote guidance and support on student success.
