De La Salle Academy

De La Salle Academy, founded by Brother Brian Carty, a legend in New York City schools, is a private, independent, non-sectarian middle school that admits academically talented students through a needs-blind admissions process; no qualified student is turned away for lack of financial capabilities. De La Salle actively recruits students in less advantaged communities: 48% of students are from families with incomes of $50,000 or less and 31% have an income of $30,000 or less. De La Salle prepares students for, and helps them gain admission to, top-tier private day, boarding, parochial, and specialized public high schools that support a pathway to college. 100% of De La Salle students are placed in boarding, independent day, parochial, and specialized public high schools. We have been funding this school since 1991.

For almost three decades, Heckscher has helped change the trajectory of the lives of many De La Salle graduates. As a private, independent school, De La Salle Academy was founded to serve the needs of academically talented students from low-income and working-class families, with no idea of their own possibilities. With a challenging academic curriculum, the support of a strong community, and the investment of partners like Heckscher, our students are able to attend some of the best high schools and colleges in the nation. Our alumni go on to positions of service and leadership in their communities. It is with the support of Heckscher that we are able to change the world, one child at a time.
