Approach

Achievement First

Achievement First’s (AF) Navigator is replicating AF’s K-8 math program in other schools. AF is a network of 41 K-12 public charter schools serving 15,500+ students in New York City, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Students in AF’s NYC elementary and middle schools are outperforming peers by impressive numbers. AF NYC students are scoring at double the proficiency rates as their peers in local districts.

AF’s Navigator provides intensive coaching and tools that enable district and charter schools to effectively implement AF’s curriculum. The program works. For two years in a row, 75% of the Navigator partners had at least 5 percentage point growth on their state tests each year and nearly a third had 10+ percentage point growth. Our grant supported the implementation of adapted materials that specifically address unfinished learning as a result of school closures and remote teaching (including developing self-directed learning modules and personalized learning playlists for students, implementation guides for teachers, and stronger data tracking tools) and Navigator’s work with eight school partners in NYC.
