Since 2006, the Heckscher Foundation has hosted a successful summer internship program for high school students from Urban Assembly schools, combining service to not-for-profit agencies, individual tutoring and college guidance. All of our interns have received college acceptances, substantial financial aid awards and scholarship grants, and one of the Foundation's 2007 interns, Shiyah Trotman, was awarded a Leonore Annenberg Scholarship. The 2009 summer program focused exclusively on academic support and college preparation for a group of rising juniors, including tutoring in English, math and Latin. Support for these young people is continuing during the school year with continued academic and SAT tutoring and college visits.
