BSA Troop 729 Venture Crew

The Foundation provided a first time grant to BSA Troop 729 Venture Crew, an organization, composed entirely of volunteers that provides services to needy boys and girls in Washington Heights, NY. The objective of the Venture Crew is to maintain a core of older scouts, fourteen to eighteen, at an age when they typically disengage from adults and younger siblings. They provide opportunities throughout the year that encourage the youth they serve to continue on through the higher ranks of scouting, trained to be responsible leaders in their community and role models for younger scouts.

In 2011, Scouts hiked the historic trails in Yorktown and Jamestown, Virginia sponsored by Colonial Council (the local scout council). Scouts completed questionnaires along the way by reading the signs and markers, and earned three different historic trail patches: The Jamestown Colony Patch, the Yorktown Battlefield Patch, and the Jamestown/Yorktown Trail Patch.
