Health

The Heckscher Foundation believes in providing education access for young people with physical challenges as well as recreational opportunities such as camping. We look for programs where children with special challenges make progress along their own developmental trajectories. However, health-related grants are not a principal focus of the Foundation. In addition, we do not generally give to hospitals or healthcare facilities.

The Foundation is interested in programs that lead to a lifetime of healthier habits, better management of chronic conditions, or prevention of poor health conditions such as obesity. Other examples of positive outcomes in this area could include:

  • Increased exercise
  • Appropriate height/weight ratios (BMI)
  • Decreased or no use of drugs, alcohol or other substances
  • Fewer hospitalizations and/or school absences resulting from better management of conditions such as asthma
  • Improved nutrition among young people
