The Academy for Foster Youth Helps Ease the Way for Those Aging Out of Care in NYC

The Academy, conceived by the Heckscher Foundation and operated by FEGS, is a program for youth aging out of the NYC foster care system. A recent article in City Limits describes the Academy’s origins and current structure, and describes how a combination of one-on-one guidance, tailored service-provision and flexible programming has helped many young people prepare for meaningful adulthood. The initiative is a model of collaboration and flexibility that demonstrates important best practices for supporting foster teens.
