Date: 07/11/07
On Wednesday July 11, 2007, The New York Times reported in a front page article about the successful efforts to significantly exceed last year's number of free breakfasts and lunches served to children during the summer months. Through a grant from the Heckscher Foundation, the Summer Meals Outreach Program was initiated in summer 2006 to raise awareneness and participation in needy areas like the South Bronx and Washington Heights. The results were dramatic, as reported in the Times story. As a result of these impressive results, the Foundation continues to support the Summer Meals Outreach Program in 2007 with even more ambitious goals.
