Position Title: Grants Manager
Reporting to: Senior Program Officer
Location: New York, New York

Scope and Responsibilities:

The Grants Manager will be responsible for overseeing grants management and integrating his/her work with the history, structure and operations of The Heckscher Foundation.  The incumbent will have the potential for expanded responsibilities in the foundation’s program area.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Overseeing the flow of all grant-related paperwork in conjunction with GIFTS software;

  • Conducting ongoing efforts to better organize existing grant files and produce relevant reports;

  • Developing clear grants administration policies and procedures for grantees and staff;

  • Using proposals to create contracts for successful grantees and communicating with grantees over   the life of their funding to assure compliance and excellent partnerships;

  • Preparing Board materials and responses to Trustee inquiries as needed; and

  • Contributing to and/or coordinating foundation publications.

Experience Required:

Qualified candidates will have a strong interest in improving the lives of underserved youth and a working knowledge of youth services.  Candidates should have the ability to design, implement and monitor workflow processes and procedures to help the Foundation’s grantmaking become increasingly mission- and data-driven.  He or she will possess strong analytical capabilities along with knowledge of grants management software and information technology skills.

Other specific qualifications include:

  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently and set priorities;
  • Some knowledge of NYC nonprofits active in the Foundation's funding areas;
  • Understanding of current IRS regulations related to foundations;
  • Knowledge of grants management software and information technology skills; and
  • Bachelors degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
